Across a career spanning more than five decades, the singer, pianist and composer has created a body of work that transcends borders, blending the sophistication of jazz harmony with the soul of MPB, samba and bossa nova.
First propelled to national fame when Elis Regina turned his composition “Madalena” into a major hit in 1970, Lins quickly emerged as one of Brazil’s defining musical voices, hailed by many as the natural successor to Antônio Carlos Jobim. His richly melodic compositions and unmistakable vocal style have since earned him worldwide acclaim, with artists including Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, George Benson, Barbra Streisand, Sting and Quincy Jones championing and recording his music.
Equally at home in concert halls, jazz clubs and major festivals, Lins has collaborated with everyone from the Metropole Orkest and jazz pianist Gonzalo Rubalcaba to modern jazz and soul luminaries across Europe and the United States. Winner of multiple Latin Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year and Best MPB Album, he remains one of the most internationally celebrated Brazilian artists of his generation.
